Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Nashville based artist Liz Longley. In this episode, Liz and I chat about her being born & raised in Pennsylvania, not far from where Taylor grew up, and how there MUST be something in the water in that area! Then we get into some of the reasons behind her attending; as well as some of the thigs that she learned at The Berkley School of Music. We touch very briefly on her similarly brief NYC residence, before she packed her guitar and her song book, and headed for the much more apt Nashville. Of course, I get her to explain a musical concept that I only recently learned about, and it turns out that it is her favorite musicology term! Then we talk about her music. Liz has released SEVEN albums! I pepper her with questions about some of my favorites of her work, and the meaning behind them. Naturally, I ask her about her two Kickstarter campaigns. In 2012, Liz launched a Kickstarter campaign designed to help her finance a studio album. By the end of the campaign, she has raised 157% of her goal. The resulting record that she made, landed her a record deal with Sugar Hill Records! We discuss a bit of her time at that record company, and how her exit from it transpired. Sadly, when she left the record company, they had received & shelved her latest album. So, she turned once again, to her backers at Kickstarter. Her 2020 Kickstarter campaign had a goal to raise enough funds to PURCHASE the finished album from the record company. The campaign met the stated goal in the first 24 hours and went on to raise 333% of the financial goal; making that one of the biggest musician campaigns ever funded on the platform. She used the extra funds to create TWO more records! Liz was a blast to chat with, and she even let me play two of her songs that I absolutely love. Will Wesley and Florian Fox Live At Luckenbach.
Take a walk with me down Fascination Street, as I traveled 30 minutes from my house to Luckenbach, Texas to see previous guest of the show Will Wesley perform with his buddy Florian Fox. When Will was on the show last time, he mentioned that he & Florian would be playing Luckenbach a few months from then. So, true to his word, Will reached out to me as the date got nearer, and once again invited me to come see the show, and record another episode. This time, he introduced me to his good friend and tour mate, Florian Fox. Florian is a country singer all the way from Zurich, Switzerland! When Florian is in the U.S., he and Will tour together. When Will is in Switzerland, he and Florian tour together. What a great partnership! So my wife and I went to see them play together at The Thomas Michael Riley Music Festival, live at Luckenbach, Texas! My wife and I had never been there before, and this was one hell of a reason to go. In this episode, we get to know Florian, and how he was introduced to, and fell in love with country music. The two of them share the story of how they met, and why they instantly took a liking to each other. They share some tour stories, they explain why their different musical styles work well together, and they talk about some of the similarities in their music. Naturally, they wrote a song together, and they both graciously agree to let me play it! Both of these great country artists play across America, as well as across Switzerland and Europe. If you ever have the chance to see either, or both of them, DO IT! These gentlemen are a ton of fun to talk to and listen to! ******This episode was recorded LIVE at an outdoor music festival during a torrential rainstorm. Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Keaton Simons. Keaton has been a Hollywood fixture in the music & film industry since he was a little kid. Keaton’s parents, and grandparents have been in the film & television business for decades. His grandfather was a screenwriter for some of the most decorated & loved films in history, and his parents have both starred in & written some of the most beloved projects in the business. Keaton started off singing and acting in projects as a small child and quickly fell in love with playing music. In this episode, Keaton and I chat about his early years and some of those early projects. We then transition into his diving into the music scene. I ask him about his moving to Nashville, and some of the projects he has worked on as a musician. Keaton has played with some of the biggest names in music, like: Snoop Dogg, Danny Elfman, Jason Mraz, Pharcyde, Darryl McDaniels, Chris Cornell, Gnarles Barkley, and is currently the lead guitarist for Brett Young. I ask him about each of these projects, and Keaton shares fun stories of working with these music icons. Keaton explains what a musical director is and how he has been able to translate artists’ musical ideas, into fully realized products. Naturally we talk about why some of the biggest musical stars of today are moving to Nashville, and what that city has to offer artists in the local the music scene. He even lets me play one of the songs he & Jason Mraz co-wrote! Keaton is currently on a world tour with country music showman Brett Young. If they are playing near you, you won’t want to miss them!

Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know County Music singer / songwriter, Makenzie Phipps. In this episode, we chat about how she started singing and playing the piano at a very young age, and the woman who pushed her and inspired her to become a singer, and a songwriter. With a minor focus on hymns, and gospel songs; Makenzie also writes and performs Christmas songs and country songs; including ‘Amazing Grace’, “Drag”, and “A Little of Both’, Makenzie was also recently awarded the ‘Songwriter Achievement Award’ in 2022 from The Josie Music Awards; for the unreleased song: ‘Life’s Game’. The woman that inspired Makenzie and this award-winning song was her Maw Maw; so we talk a bit about Maw Maw and her debilitating disease of Alzheimer’s. Makenzie shares her feelings on how this disease affects the entire family, and she picks up a guitar and plays ‘Life’s Game’ LIVE! Having made a name for himself throughout the decades, he was even inducted into the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame in 2021. Kelly is a serial television executive; having helped launch several networks including: RFDTV, BizTalk Radio, BizTv, and U2 America. In this episode, we get to know a little of the back story of these two pro’s, and then we get into why they decided to team up to launch an all-new streaming service called Canyon Star TV. Carl is a country music singer / songwriter who has been writing and playing music for the past few decades. In this episode; we chat about how he got into the music business, and how he came to be best friends with, and mentored by the legendary Johnny Nash. Carl tells some stories about his buddy, and shares some of the advice he got from Johnny. Carl has a hit song that some waves in 2020 and he graciously lets me play it on the show. Then we talk about how Johnny Nash and Carl always meant to do a song together; but never got to is before Johnny’s passing last year. So Carl chose one of Johnny’s biggest hits, added some lyrics, put a few twists on it; and released it to growing acclaim. I can’t wait for you to hear it. Finally, Carl tells us about a Spotify playlist he has put together celebrating Black country music artists, and where you can find it.

Patrick is a singer / songwriter from Florida who is starting to make a name for himself with his faith based country music and story telling lyrics. He has a new single out called The American Prayer that is making waves all over the country. In this episode, we talk about why he got into the music business, and how its going so far. He shares what his faith means to him, and why he tells the stories he tells with his music. While he does offer me the opportunity to play his newest single (The American Prayer); I chose not to because I think the music video tells a wonderful story as well. So I suggest you go check that out. Patrick does; however agree to let me play one of his earlier songs that means a lot to him, and I think you’re going to enjoy that one as well.

In this episode we chat about: her time on the television talent show Star Search, some of the cool people she has worked with including Lorrie Morgan and previous guest BJ Thomas. Kelly also shares a story about her struggle with breast cancer, and her new song ‘I’m Not Going Anywhere’; which is currently being used in a national advertising campaign for a nationwide hospital system. Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Janelle Arthur. Janelle is a country singer & songwriter in Nashville, and 5th place finalist on season 12 of American Idol. In this episode, we chat about her first job ever (as a 7 year old) working at Dollywood portraying a young Dolly Parton, and her experience auditioning & being on American Idol. Then we talk about her first ever movie Runnin From My Roots, where she played the lead role. Lastly we discuss her new single Hand Me Downs and how she was able to get Dolly Parton to sing it as a duet with her. She does let me play that song, as well as the title track from her film Runnin’ From My Roots. This is a sweet, genuine, and generous young lady, and I had a great time speaking with her.
