Vinnie Tortorich #6 Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know even more about SIX TIME guest; Vinnie Tortorich. Known in some circles as “The Angriest Trainer”; Cinnie is: a podcaster, an author, fitness guru, a celebrity trainer, a multiple business owner, and a documentary filmmaker. In this episode, we chat a little about why he wrote his best-selling book “Fitness Confidential”, we touch a bit on his podcast “Fitness Confidential”, and then get into some of his previous documentaries. Vinnie’s first documentary is called “Fat: A Documentary”; and was the best-selling film in the history of Gravitas Ventures. His follow up to that was “Fat 2” two years later. In 2022 Vinnie released his third documentary titled “Beyond Impossible”; where he did a deep dive into the meat substitute industry. We talk a bit more about this one, as it had some odd effects on his social media accounts. Finally, we get to the goods. Vinnie’s FOURTH documentary, in his words, “Goes right at the Keto community”. This new film “Dirty Keto” expounds on the latest Keto fad, and what the term ‘keto’ actually means. He also does some digging to find out what official governing body authorizes the term “Certified Keto” and allows it to be placed on packaging. I give him a neat suggestion for this newer film, and I think he likes it! At one point he explains the glycemic index to me and why I should care. We also touch on the newest trend of freezing bread and pasta before reheating and eating it, and why this changes the glycemic scale of these foods. Finally, Vinnie shares the details of his most recent health concerns and what his plans are going forward with it. Vinie is rad as hell. He is a great guy, and has the record for the most appearances on Fascination Street Podcast! Check out his newest film “Dirty Keto” available ONLY on Amazon; beginning June 1, 2024.
Rudy Pavich Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Rudy Pavich. Born and raised in Hibbing, Minnesota, Rudy SHOULD have been a roofer; as his family owns a roofing company. Rudy decided to go another route. Spending 23 years in the radio business, he had a life changing event in his immediate family; then took a break. That break afforded Rudy the opportunity to focus his passion in another direction……. stand up comedy. In this episode, we chat about how and why he decided to become a comic, we discuss his time in radio a bit, and then we discuss some of the big breaks that have come his way. Rudy is also a film maker with a couple of short films under his belt; one of them having won the prestigious ‘Louis Anderson Award’ at the Minnesota Film Festival. This was the final film selected by Louis before his passing. Of course I take this chance to pitch my short film idea to Rudy, which he graciously plays along with. Rudy gives most of the credit for his growing fan base and various opportunities to fellow comedian Adam Ray, for inspiring and lending a helping hand. I ask Rudy to tell me more about his video editing & graphic production with Adam Ray, Adam Carolla, Meghan Trainor, and others. Some big opportunities have come his way, and Rudy was ready and eager to meet those head on. We touch a bit on his podcast ‘A Long Walk to Cleveland’; which is currently on hiatus. Rudy is currently touring his stand up with various other well known comedians, so be sure to check RudyPavichComedy.com for tour dates near you, and tell him you heard him on Fascination Street Podcast! Special thanks to Lori Fetrick (Ice, from American Gladiators) for helping make this happen.
Jeff Leach Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Jeff Leach. Jeff is a comedian, voice over actor, DJ, presenter, podcaster, and entertainer. In this episode, we chat about how he came to be all of those things. He shares stories from his DJ-ing days and we talk a bit about his voice over career; including his stint as GHOST on Call of Duty. We also get into his British & Romanian parents and influences, before we jump into his microdosing experiences. Jeff is very candid about his mental health struggles, including an attempt to take his own life several years ago. I ask him about his podcast: “Comic Cougar Convo” with co-host Cherie DeVille, and some of the work he does with Warrior Transition Outdoors, and other veterans organizations. I tell him the starfish parable, and we discuss the pertinence of that story in today’s culture. Finally, we talk about his You Tube comedy special called “Jeff Leach Presents A Comedy Spectacular. (Free on YT). Jeff also tells me a bit about his new channel on You Tube called “An Evolution of Man”, and what he hopes to accomplish with it. I say it at the top of the show, but special thanks to Lori Fetrick (Ice from American Gladiators) for helping make this episode possible. Go check out Jeff’s podcast, You Tube channel, voice over projects, and his comedy spectacular.
Dicky Barrett Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Richard Michael Barrett. Better know as Dicky; he is also called The Godfather of Skacore. Dicky is former frontman and founding member of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and current frontman and founder of the new super group The Defiant. In this episode, we chat about how he came to be the bow-tied plaid leader of The Bosstones, and some of the cool things he got to do along the way. He tells the story of getting to open for The Misfits while he was still in high school, as well as getting to play Fenway Park many years later. Dicky shares stories of meeting and befriending Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel when they were just getting started; and some of the fun things he got to do as a result of these friendships. Adam uses Bosstones’ songs in the intro and outro of his Adam Carolla Show podcast; and Dicky was the announcer for Jimmy Kimmel Live for nearly 20 years. Of course, I ask Dicky if I can play my all time favorite MMB song… and he says yes! Obviously we discuss how MMB ended up in the cult classic iconic film Clueless, and what made them decide to do it. Next, Dicky explains what happened between him and the other Bosstones, as well as his relationship with the Jimmy Kimmel Live late night show. Finally, we discuss his new band The Defiant. This super group features former members of: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Offspring, Smash Mouth, Street Dogs, and The Briggs. The Defiant is: Pete Parada, Greg Camp, Johnny Rioux, Joey LaRocca, and Dicky Barrett. Their debut album “If We’re Being Honest” was released in late October 2023. Naturally I ask him if I can play my favorite song from this new album…. and Dicky said yes again! I had such a blast talking with Dicky, I think we are best friends now! Don’t be surprised if you hear more from Dicky on Fascination Street Podcast. This dude is rad as balls. Thanks Dicky! And thanks Mike Dawson, you know what you did.
Teresa Strasser Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Teresa Strasser. Teresa first came into my heart as co-host / sidekick on The Adam Carolla Show on the radio, then in podcast form. I have wanted to get Teresa on the show for quite some time. Special thanks to Vinnie Tortorich for helping make this happen. In this episode, Teresa and I chat about how she came to work on the radio in Hollywood, in sort of a unique way. Then we discuss her podcast with Gina Grad, called Easy Listening. She explains what the show started out as, and why the show recently ended. Next we get into her book. The book is called Making It Home: Life Lessons From a Season of Little League. Teresa explains why she felt like she needed to write this book, and who it is for. The backstory of the book, is that Teresa and her father are repairing their relationship and coping with grief, while attending every game in a season of her son’s little league baseball games. Teresa lost her brother and her mother 4 months apart. This is the story of coping, grieving, and healing….. through the ups & downs of her little boy’s athletic efforts… all while repairing her relationship with her father. This is an extraordinary story, written by a remarkable author. I enjoyed this book very much. Touching, funny, sentimental, while on the edge of your seat with the winning and losing of the season. We do touch a bit on what it is like to grow up separated from your sibling, and Teresa tells a story of sweet, sweet vindication from her wicked, wicked stepmom. GET THIS BOOK!
Lori Fetrick Returns! Take a walk with me as I get to know even more about Lori Fetrick! Since this is a return appearance, we don’t really do the ‘how did you get to where you are, from where you were’ thing. Go back and check out her first appearance for that (5/29/23). In this episode, we catch up on everything that has been happening for her since we last spoke. Two documentaries about The American Gladiators came out, she has been on numerous tv shows, and podcasts, and her podcast (Chillin’ With Ice) is nearing the end of it’s second season. She tells me about how the show has changed, and her right along with it. I ask about some of her interview experiences, and what is was like to attend the Adam Carolla Show Christmas party. Plus we talk about her new children’s book (Playground Warriors), which is set to be released midway through 2024. She tells a fun story about why she declined to appear on The Howard Stern Show at the height of The American Gladiators TV show, and we end the show discussing a very sensitive subject. She mentioned it on her show, and I felt like it brought to light some valuable information that could help women who might be in a similar situation. So pay attention!
Stewart Anstead Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Stewart Anstead. Stewart is an artist, more specifically a painter. He has produced some of the most beautiful and unique pieces I have ever seen. Some of his art is inspired by automobile racing, some is inspired by iconic athletes; but all of his pieces are themselves inspiring. In this episode, Stewart takes us on a journey of finding that thing in life that pulls you, that part of you that won’t be ignored. He shares with us the path that led him from California’s North Bay (Chico) to Utah (BYU), and the artistic steps along the way. We discuss the artistic value he sees in brands like: Nike, Converse, lettering, and even the human hand. Of course, we talk about such greats as: Warhol, Klimt, Picasso, Pollock, Banksy, and Bob Ross. Stewart’s art is hanging in many homes & businesses, including The San Francisco Giants back offices, and comedian Adam Carolla’s home. His art features the likes of: Paul Newman racecars, Shelby American, Secretariat, Rudy Ruettiger, Madison Baumgartner, and tons more. Stewart has an inspiring story, and I thank him so much for sharing. You can actually commission an Anstead Piece of your own, as he gives his contact info toward the end.
